Officially in a funk

I am officially in a terrible funk. A “spending most of the day trying not to tear up at my desk for no reason” funk. An “all I want to do is find places to hide” funk.

Apartment Therapy is on hold until this passes. Although I’m not particularly interested in real therapy, I might bite the bullet this time.

Week 5, or I totally fell off the face of the earth

Indeed! I had the laziest weekend EVAR, except for the part where I had some really good tequila and thought it would be wise and funny to do a very small backwards sommersault to get myself out from between the couch and the coffeetable and ended up tweaking my neck so badly it caused me to pass out when I tried to stand up.

I did manage to meet my snuggling and napping quota for the weekend. I also ran the dishwasher and the roomba. It was all around lovely.

ICANHAZRUG

rug

I don’t feel like I did a whole lot this week. I feel like I fell off the cure-wagon in the strict sense, although I continue to fix up stuff around the apartment. I didn’t buy flowers this week or a candle, but I did get some herbs and little container for my porch.

To the photos!

The great rug debate is resolved.

This rug was the winner, but in a light blue. The moroccan windows one was wool and very very rough and scratchy. The jute one feels like walking on a foot massage. AND it was on sale for $70. Between that and the amazing tax return I got this morning (I was sure I was going to have to owe) I felt certian I was going to be hit by a bus on the way home. AND I WASN’T.

I never want to talk about rugs again, thank you.

Choosing the Right Rug for Any Space

I should maybe read this article from Real Simple.

A rug resolution

This is the rung that may have won in Powder.

Much less daring, but in my price range and the right blue (my color palate changed when I realized I really don’t want to swap out my duvet cover right now).

I’m also picking up some orange sheets from there. AND they are a uPromise partner so I get to bank up some cash for the neiceling.

$100/sq foot

weego rug

Here is the $100/square foot rug I love from Weego Home in Santa Monica. Their stuff is beautiful and I’m sure totally worth it. But my cats can enjoy throwing up on a $100 Target rug equally as much as this one.

w00t! Lorrie is ATCure-ing too!

It has come to my attention that Lorrie of loveyoudeer.com and myallnaturalweightloss.com, crafter extrordinaire, and all around cool chickie is jumping on the AT Cure bandwagon.

Yay!

Lorrie, start taking your before pics and get a flickr account to post them to!

Desk with computer and lamp! Whoo!
Goodbye ugly red couch! Hello wrinkly, but vastly better slipcover!

New chair to replace Awesome Chair. Must sort of contents of Awesome chair, which is currently on my bed.

This is all for now. Laundry and Awesome Chair sorting time.

To do this week:

  • Jesus, get some freaking curtians already
  • Find or order the angle aluminium
  • Tackle Awesome ™ ChairDie Awesome Chair, die! Or at least linger in the outbox.
  • Put one green chair out to garbage, find storage for second
  • No, really. Take the stereo stuff to Scott’s
  • Get picture hooks, hang things, screws for new hook
  • Give a vacuum once over Tuesday or Wednesday
  • Sort mail
  • Sort/organize closet
  • Landing strip (look at cork shelf lining, thanks graphxgrrl)

edit: I did all of these things except the curtians and the angle aluminum, which I may not bet getting since its kind of prohibitivly expensive. We’ll see how my tax returns go. I also kept both green chairs, but am getting rid of the Philippe Starck Cozy Target chairs.

My problem with the housewarming

The thing with the housewarming really comes down to this: I hate people in my space. Its been that way since I’ve been a kid. I’d much rather have some kind of event at someone elses house than have people over to mine. I live in a studio. Its like having a party in your bedroom. The other thing is that I’m not entirely sure anyone would come. And if anyone did, they would really just be mostly Scott’s friends anyway, since I have exactly 1 non-Scott friend. 1-non Scott friend and 2 bosses and 1 co-worker who all live in North Hollywood and Pasadena (aka too far to travel to Culver City).

I’d rather just save myself the stress and dissapointment. So, sorry Maxwell, I think I may bow out of this portion of the Eight Week Cure, as much as I’d like to make pretty invitations.

Week 2

Before

During

I painted the desk.
I’m am being thwarted in my search for 3 inch angle aluminum. Soon, though. I can feel it.
I was also very sad to find out that I can’t use FLOR as an area rug on carpet.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to this week.

The ATC to do list for the week

to do list
photo stolen from AMK’s flickr set. clicky for linky.

Fix: Added Velcro to the cabinets
Clean Kitchen: half way there! I’ve got to scrub the insides of the cabinets and fridge and put down the contact paper.
Throw away old food: done in fridge, to do in cabinets tonight
Buy water filter: Done!
Run hands over every wall: Eh….
Clear surface for outbox: w00t!
Use outbox: Ehhh…….. Look, I moved cross country last year, only shipping what I could afford and taking what I could on the plane. I have very little.
Buy fresh flowers: Done. More expensive in Pasadena than at TJs though :(
Determine style: Every day.
Cook a meal: Wasn’t a new recipe, but I did that last night.
Choose date for housewarming: I am iffy about this part. To be addressed later.

the lazy perfectionist

Hi Lorrie!

I am a lazy perfectionist. If I can’t be perfect at something, then I’d rather do a lazy, half assed job at it because I can at least comfort myself in knowing that I wasn’t *trying* to be perfect. Now, its a step up from high school where if I knew I couldn’t do something perfect, I’d rather just not do it at all.

I’ve also been known to be easily frustrated while shopping. If I’m in a grocery store and they don’t have one main thing I need, I’ve been known to put everything back, not buy anything at all and just leave. Possibly while getting very teary-eyed. As if the grocery store’s lack of stock is somehow a reflection of my shopping abilities.

Now that’s fucked up.

This weekend, I managed to go to several stores that didn’t have specifically what I came there for, was able to continue shopping, didn’t cry, and have made alternate plans to purchase the items elsewhere.

Its a small thing but I feel like a big grown up now.

I’ve cleaned and organized parts of my bathroom (not the tub or the medicine cabinet) and kitchen (not the cabinets or fridge).
I re-organized my bookshelves.
I gave a huge bag of clothes to James to give to Lisa (outbox give away).
I cleaned off my desk a little bit.
I ordered a slip cover for the couch.
I hung two hooks in the bathroom.

I still need to:
Vacuum this week.w00t!
Get cork for kitchen wall The cork I got was in rolls. It isn’t as nice as the tiles but was half the price. Unfortunatly it tears very easy and sheds. I’ve reinforced the edges and holes i poked in it with packing tape and will ModPodge the front side to seal it. The two rolls are currently living under my bed under some books to flatten out.
Get screws for third hook
Find 3″ angle brackets. Buy wood, sand and wax for shelves.
Get paint for desk
Make some rug decisions (4×6 to 5×8). Maybe bamboo? (def something stiff and/or heavy that the cats can’t eff up too bad by playing with it.) FLOOR. I’m going to splurge and do it. Now… which ones?
Find some fabric for curtians (window is 84″ x 87″)

Target:
Litter box Happy cats!
Lamp
Sheets (Thomas O’Brien)? The ones I like only come in Queen. Poop.
Corner shelves for shower. Maybe. Totally forgot. Not convinced I want them either.
Contact paper

Cost Plus

I am in love with Cost Plus. I went in for the first time last night and I feel like I’m going to go back. They had the spice jars I wanted, but in glass and for less money. Score.

I am pleased.

They also had a bunch of Mrs. Meyers products. We’ve been using the Mrs. Meyers lavender dish soap at work and its very very nice. I picked up some counter spray and will be looking to replace my cleaning products with theirs when the toxic chemical stuff runs out.

I’ve just made the first major apartment purchase, a slipcover from Overstock.com for the ugly red couch. I hope it works. I’ve also skipped ahead in the Cure and cleaned and organized the surfaces in the bathroom, minus the bathtub. Its much less scary to put my contacts in now. I’m not so afraid to drop them on the counter.

I bought some wrapping paper that is pretty cool. I want to mount it to some nice plywood and shalack it as a cheap artwork idea. If I like it, great. If not it can always become a collage project.

Things to get at Target:
Litter box (out of stock, other tgt next week), Counter wipes (got spray instead). Power strips. Extension cord (they were all shady). Look at organizational bins/trays, pillows, lamps, bedding, curtians, rugs.

This weekend:
Return cabinet things at home depot, get plywood, shalack and paint for desk. Returned! Got paint chips and made some decisions. I picked up drill bits for the shelf project instead of plywood and shelack, which I now think was a silly idea.
Go to Santa Monica and pick through West Elm, Anthropoligie, and Urban Outfitters sales.
Look at Pier One to see if the lamp I like is on sale through the store or only through the website. Lamp was nice, but shade was ugly.
Measure for rug. Measure for drapes.
Send Mark shelf picture.Didn’t need to, Scott’s going to pitch in.
Stop at the thrift store on Venice. very cool, but everything needed more love than I’m willing to give.
Bring stereo to Scott’s.

edit: I’m failing at the outbox. I haven’t put the green chairs outside yet. Or the ugly blue coffee table. Or the black side table on the patio. I may cheat and leave all those things out there for now. The black belt that is broke is in the outbox though. As is all the clothes I need to give to Diane or Lisa.
