Tryouts for sub pool were yesterday. I did not move up.
Am I pissed? OH YEAH. 90% at myself and 10% at the universe and everything in it.
Did I do everything I could to make it through? Probably not. But by the time I realized that it was too late.
The upside? I don’t ever want to be this angry at myself again. It’s not pretty. I know what I have to do and it involves a lot of hard work and skill repetition. It’s going to be like an 80s movie montage over here until the next tryouts. I am going to punch the next tryouts in the face. It’s going to be awesome.
The other upside? I’m going to go to Target after work and have some retail therapy. Sub pool may be out of reach until the next round, but pretty new shoes, you will be mine.

Well hello there!
I haven’t had much to say since the knee incident. I’m healing up, although I got a little over-excited about how mobile I’ve become at the bout on Saturday and spent most of Sunday with my leg pearched delicately on a pillow. I am not trying out tomorrow. I am, deep down, okay with this. I could use the extra practice and have talked to one of the vets about some private training once I’m back to normal. In the meantime, I’ll be chilling with the Enforcers, the LADD reffing crew, hopefully kickin’ ass and takin’ stats.
To make up for the lack of content, please enjoy a photo from October. We got up at ass-crack o’clock one morning to head out to Topenga to try and get some photos of surfers at sunrise. I did get a few, but I really loved this sign across the street from the beach. Click the pic for a link to the set.

After years of mocking and asking “how do you milk a soy bean…. tell me THAT!!! HA!!!!” I’ve made the jump to soy milk. I haven’t become a vegetarian or lactose intolerant. My co-worker always has it in the fridge and I like some milk in my tea and for some reason soy milk like NEVER goes bad. And after about a month of soy for me I’m hooked.
Fascinating. I know.
Scott and I went to the San Diego zoo last weekend. I would have liked more pandas and for the big cats to be awake, but other than that it was huge and awesome. I wish we could have seen more but we walked somewhere between three or four miles and by the time we were done I was full of zoo.
One of the best parts of the weekend though was scoring $550 worth of hotel stay for $100. Thanks credit card points and guy who locked himself into the room next to us and had to be noisily extracted at 8:30 in the morning thus getting our parking comped!
Oh there’s lots of other stuff going on as well. I’m trying to figure out how my money is best spent: more fancy hair product, new wheels for derby and some ass pads, or a shopping spree at Tarjay to pick up as much of the Converse line as I can carry. All of these options will cost about $120. That Bumble and Bumble hair stuff is FAAAANCAAAY.
Oh. I still <3 derby.

Determine style: Every day.
Cook a meal: Wasn’t a new recipe, but I did that last night.

Hi Lorrie!
I am a lazy perfectionist. If I can’t be perfect at something, then I’d rather do a lazy, half assed job at it because I can at least comfort myself in knowing that I wasn’t *trying* to be perfect. Now, its a step up from high school where if I knew I couldn’t do something perfect, I’d rather just not do it at all.
I’ve also been known to be easily frustrated while shopping. If I’m in a grocery store and they don’t have one main thing I need, I’ve been known to put everything back, not buy anything at all and just leave. Possibly while getting very teary-eyed. As if the grocery store’s lack of stock is somehow a reflection of my shopping abilities.
Now that’s fucked up.
This weekend, I managed to go to several stores that didn’t have specifically what I came there for, was able to continue shopping, didn’t cry, and have made alternate plans to purchase the items elsewhere.
Its a small thing but I feel like a big grown up now.
I’ve cleaned and organized parts of my bathroom (not the tub or the medicine cabinet) and kitchen (not the cabinets or fridge).
I re-organized my bookshelves.
I gave a huge bag of clothes to James to give to Lisa (outbox give away).
I cleaned off my desk a little bit.
I ordered a slip cover for the couch.
I hung two hooks in the bathroom.
I still need to:
Vacuum this week.w00t!
Get cork for kitchen wall The cork I got was in rolls. It isn’t as nice as the tiles but was half the price. Unfortunatly it tears very easy and sheds. I’ve reinforced the edges and holes i poked in it with packing tape and will ModPodge the front side to seal it. The two rolls are currently living under my bed under some books to flatten out.
Get screws for third hook
Find 3″ angle brackets. Buy wood, sand and wax for shelves.
Get paint for desk
Make some rug decisions (4×6 to 5×8). Maybe bamboo? (def something stiff and/or heavy that the cats can’t eff up too bad by playing with it.) FLOOR. I’m going to splurge and do it. Now… which ones?
Find some fabric for curtians (window is 84″ x 87″)
Target:
Litter box Happy cats!
Lamp
Sheets (Thomas O’Brien)? The ones I like only come in Queen. Poop.
Corner shelves for shower. Maybe. Totally forgot. Not convinced I want them either.

After vacuuming and mopping, I started moving the furniture since I had it away from the walls. When I moved in, I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with the arrangment. Now that I’ve mixed it up a little bit, I really like it. I can easily see where things should hang on the walls, where I need more lighting, etc. I knew I wanted to take down the vertical blinds and get some curtians, but now that my bed is so close to the window, I’m a little concerned about it. It gets very bright in the morning, which I don’t mind so much, but it also gets very hot. Two days a week, the garbage truck comes down the alley and picks up the garbage from the trash room that I live right above. They don’t seem to use the “back up beep” anymore but the sound of the clanging Dumpster is not a chriping bird or a lovely waterfall.
And progress continues, but not so much tonight. Here’s from last night.

The week around 4th of July I went from Burbank to Long Island to New Paltz to Philly-ish to New Paltz to Long Island to Manhattan then back to Burbank. There was a lot of traveling. Here are some transportation related photos.

It’s in “Downtown” or “East” LA depending on who you ask. It was very industrial.

We’ve been in Malta for 2 days. I am now very good friends with SPF 48 and am not sunburned. Or tan.
July 24th, 2005
And I didn’t kill anyone. I also didn’t make this face the whole way down to “not-Philly”.
There was a lot of meat and beer. Vegetables came in the form of potato salad. Fruit was in the shape of pie, lovingly made by Jan.
I’d post a link to pictures, but my slacker friends never got around to posting them. Except Scott. He’s a slacker, but not this once.
I will be in Malta for the next 10 days. I will try not to turn a lobster-esque color.
Also, my new job is ROCK and can beat up your job.
PS. I still drink wine. The wine I’m drinking now is Guappo Rose. Its really great. Light, not too sweet and a great tingle when its opened. I <3 it and will get it again if I can remember to.
July 21st, 2005
but I’ll be able to write about it better after I take my wine class on Wednesday. I realized that all I could really say were things like “um, this was good and I liked it. And then I fell alseep.”
Anyway, besides that stuff is good. Steve and I took Moatie to Bear Mountain park and went for a nice hike. I didn’t get burned and forgot the camera so there are no pictures. But trust me, it was very pretty and steep.

We went to “The Gates” while it was still up. In true fashion, we waited until dusk of the last day it was up. But we did take pictures.
